The Design Story
Unveiled at the 1945 Copenhagen Cabinetmakers' Guild Exhibition, the 45 Chair introduced a groundbreaking idea: separating the "carried" elements — the seat and backrest — from the "carrying" frame beneath. A thin, curved shell rests on a cross bar between the side stretchers, creating a floating, weightless silhouette never seen before. It marked the start of the design language Finn Juhl would perfect through the late 1940s, cementing him as a true pioneer of Danish furniture.
