Carlos Motta — Designer Profile

Carlos Motta is a Brazilian architect, furniture designer and woodworker. He began working with design and woodworking in São Paulo’s Vila Madalena neighbourhood in 1975. After studying architecture and spending a year in California learning construction techniques, he established Atelier Carlos Motta in 1978.

The atelier brings architecture, furniture, objects and sculpture together with a working joinery shop. Its practice values durable forms, craftsmanship and thoughtful use of materials, including reclaimed timber in many original designs.

Gulmohar Wood Works offers custom-made versions of selected designs in Bangalore, with solid teak wooden components and any upholstery identified separately. Designer credits acknowledge the original work and do not imply affiliation with or endorsement by Carlos Motta or his atelier.
