Afra and Tobia Scarpa — Designer Profile

Afra and Tobia Scarpa were an Italian design partnership whose furniture explored the relationship between structure, materials and everyday comfort. Their work includes designs for Cassina, Molteni&C and Maxalto, with later reissues bringing selected models back into production.

Woodworking is central to many of their pieces: visible frames, carefully shaped supports and the contrast between a firm structure and soft seating give the furniture a recognisable character. Their portfolio also includes designs using metal, moulded materials and layered timber; these are not automatically suitable for an all-solid-teak interpretation.

Gulmohar Wood Works makes custom furniture in Bangalore. Any Gulmohar version is independently manufactured, with original design credits retained. The collection does not represent original branded imports or an authorised association with the designers or original manufacturers.
